Welcome to this page especially for Delamere School!

I’ll be posting new things each week of our project…

WEEK 1

Here is a reading of the book Summer Birds – The Butterflies of Maria Merian by Margarita Engle & Julie Paschkis…

As little Nature Explorers, keep a lookout for beetles, bugs and butterflies. Notice their shapes and patterns and colours.

What plants and flowers do they seem to like?

Why not keep a little notebook with you – just like Maria Merian – in which you can draw sketches of the insects you see?

You can make notes about their behaviours and locations – maybe even make a map of hotspots for wildlife near you…

WEEK 2

Join in with Pippa as she uses natural charcoal to draw a lovely butterfly in this simple video tutorial…

This stunning red admiral butterfly fluttered in through my open window today. It was happy to land on my hand for a little rest!

Have you seen many butterflies and bees this summer?

If you take a picture or make a quick sketch of the insects you see while you are out and about, when you get home you can look them up to find out what species they are and what plants they are attracted to.

If you look carefully you can see that my little friend’s wings are a bit tatty, so this must be an older butterfly that has already had many adventures. After I took this photograph I took it outside and watched it fly away…

WEEK 3

The Squirrels class at Delamere made this lovely ebook about their journey through the project so far…
