Pippa considered it a great honour to be asked to present this homage to the late, great Judith Kerr at Bath Children’s Literature Festival in September 2019!

Judith Kerr (1923-2019) is best known as the writer and illustrator of such well-loved picture books as The Tiger Who Came to Tea, but for this celebration event, Pippa was also able to share the fascinating story of her early life as a Jewish refugee from Hitler’s Germany. We re-enacted her most famous tale, read the rhythmical One Night In The Zoo and featured Judith’s new book, The Curse of the School Rabbit, posthumously released by her longtime publisher, HarperCollins.

This celebration of Judith Kerr’s life and work draws attention to her experience as a refugee and as an immigrant seeking a new life in Britain, highlighting the importance of our shared values of openness and respect for others.

The performance lasts 30min and is followed by a 30min mark-making and papercraft workshop ideal for children aged 3-5.
